I read this good article on Finding and claiming “lost” money. Having recently dealt with the death of a parent this piqued my interest. My story was pretty tame in regards to “lost” money.
My mother, who passed away last year, was very prepared for her passing. She had set up a personal trust. She had organized all her documents and I knew about all her monetary information, or so I thought. I knew about all the normal stuff, but my mother had a part time job before she died and she had put retirement away while doing that part time retirement job. I don’t even know if she knew it was happening. So I get everything that I know about taken care of, and low and behold a few months later I get a notice to her about her current retirement benefits. Now it has been a little problematic getting the funds, but they will come around soon.
The point I am trying to make is, my mother was as prepared as anyone can be, and she missed this. Do you have relatives out there that might have some money “lost”? You should read this article and see where you can search. I found it to be very good. I hope you do too.
