The Expendables – Review

Saturday, August 21, 2010

Went and saw The Expendables this week, and I loved this movie.  It was the kind of movie I enjoy.  It had the veil of a story, just enough of one to convince me to follow it.  I don’t need a deep back story, just one that keeps me interested in both the characters and their motivations.  Stallone is getting harder and harder to understand, like Ozzie Osborn, but I can forgive that for the ass kicking he gives in this movie.

I have heard rumors that Jean Claude Van Damme and Steven Segal both passed on this movie and I have to say they made a huge mistake.  This movie is a good guys movie.

The fight scenes were sensationalized and brutal, but that is what I like.  It had explosions, gun-play, and most importantly it made fun of itself and the actors.  They gave an excellent performance and poked fun at themselves.  Come on, Jet Li complaining that he has to work harder because he is smaller?  Or Dolph Lundgren stating that he is not good with math?  He is a friggin Rhode Scholar for goodness sakes.

If you are looking for a deeply meaningful and insightful look into the human psyche, look somewhere else. If you are looking for a movie to kick a$$ and take names, then this is your movie.

I rate this movie as a Full Price movie (click here to read about my ratings).
